يوجد في اللغة الانجليزية بعض العبارات التي تطلق و يراد بها معنىً آخر غير المعنى الحرفي لها مما قد يسبب بعض الاشكاليه في فهم بعض المحادثات .. و قد احببت ان اذكر بعضها فيما يلي :


Break the ice

المعنى الحرفي : اكسر الثلج

المعنى الصحيح : مهد الأمور او مهد الطريق لأمر ما

He looks blue

المعنى الحرفي : هو يبدو ازرقاً

المعنى الصحيح : هو يبدو حزيناً

She is in the clouds

المعنى الحرفي : هي في الغيوم

المعنى الصحيح : هي شاردة الذهن

I will go banana

المعنى الحرفي : سأصبح موزة

المعنى الصحيح : سأجن او سأفقد عقلي

It rains cats and dogs

المعنى الحرفي : انها تمطر قططاً و كلاباً

المعنى الصحيح : انها تمطر بغزاره


This is nuts

المعنى الحرفي : هذه مكسرات

but I just wanna say that the expression "Break the ice" does not really means : مهد الأمور او مهد الطريق لأمر
actually, it is when, for example, you start communicating with someone in a situation where there is much silence, we say that you break the ice, means you break the silence.

hmmm, actually i believe both are correct, usually i use it in the way you explain it.

but i think it's more a popular phrase that my be used for deferent purposes depending on the state.

you should keep in mind that english is different from a place to another. not a big difference but still it's enough to be acknowledged.

I guess that she wanted to say the meaning in Britsh english !


and the sentences I did post there they are " american slang "

there is a big difference betwen "american slang and british slang" !


one more thing I also see a little difference betwen the English used in both countries so the same for their slangs !
